Driveways & Patios in North London

New driveways, patios, paving repair, re-sanding and resealing.

A new driveway adds curb appeal, value and a clean entry every time you come home. We lay drives properly — with a real sub-base — so they hold up for 20+ years.

Block-Paved Driveways

The North London favourite — block paving in concrete or clay, laid in a stretcher, herringbone or basket-weave pattern, with a brindle-mix or single-colour palette. Done properly the sub-base is excavated to about 250mm, a Type 1 hardcore is laid and whacker-compacted in 100mm layers, a screeded sand bed sits on top of that, and the blocks are tamped down with a vibrating plate. Final kiln-dried jointing sand finishes the job.

We always include drainage planning. A driveway over 5m² that drains to a permeable surface does not need planning permission. We can build the falls towards your existing soakaway or specify a permeable block layout.

Patios — Porcelain, Sandstone, Slate

Porcelain has become the patio of choice for new builds — it does not stain, does not lose colour and only needs an occasional brush. We lay it on a proper mortar bed with a slurry primer and full bedding underneath each slab (the spot-and-dab method is a common shortcut that causes rocking and hollow slabs within a few years).

Natural sandstone and slate are still beautiful options if you want a more textured look. Both want sealing every three to five years to keep the colour deep.

Repair & Restoration

Often a tired-looking drive does not need replacing — just lifting, levelling and re-laying. A typical job involves lifting sunken or sagging areas (often where soft ground underneath has compacted), adding fresh sub-base, re-laying the existing blocks and re-sanding the joints. Result: a like-new drive at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement.

Sealing & Maintenance

After a pressure-wash and re-sand, we can apply a polymer sealer to protect against weed regrowth, oil staining and frost damage. Sealer also enhances the colour — popular on faded brindle drives.

Why North London Customers Choose Us for Driveways & Patios

North London is full of trades and not all of them turn up. We hear that from new customers almost every week — someone has waited two days for a callback, taken a morning off work for a quote that never arrived, or been chased for cash on a job that was never finished properly. We built our reputation by doing the simple things consistently: answering the phone, turning up when we say we will, giving fixed prices in writing, doing the job to a tidy standard, and leaving the house cleaner than we found it.

We are not the cheapest in North London and we do not try to be — but we believe we offer the best value when you balance price, reliability and finish quality.

The Process — What to Expect When You Book

1. Enquiry. Fill in our contact form with a brief description of the work and a few photos if you can — the more we know upfront, the more accurate our quote will be. We respond within 24 hours on working days, often much sooner.

2. Site visit and quote. For most driveways & patios work we like to visit the property to give an accurate fixed price. The visit is free, takes 15-30 minutes and there is no obligation. For very small jobs we can quote from photographs alone.

3. Booking. Once you agree the quote we send a confirmation email and book a date. We do not take deposits for jobs under £500 — you pay on completion when you are happy with the work.

4. The work. We arrive on the agreed day in the agreed time slot. We dust-sheet floors, protect skirting and furniture, and work tidily. We keep you informed if anything changes.

5. Completion and payment. When the job is finished we walk you through it, hand over any guarantees or certificates and take payment. Card, bank transfer or cash all welcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
No, provided it is permeable or drains to a permeable surface. Most modern block-paved drives meet this requirement.
How long does a typical drive take?
A standard double driveway (40-50m²) takes us four to six working days from excavation to finish.
What is the difference between concrete blocks and clay pavers?
Concrete blocks are cheaper and come in more colours; clay pavers keep their colour for life but cost roughly 40% more.
Do you handle the kerb-drop application?
Yes — where a new vehicle crossing is needed from the public footway, we handle the council application on your behalf.
