Guttering Repair & Replacement in North London

Gutter clearing, repair, replacement, downpipes and fascia work.

Blocked or leaking guttering is the single most common cause of damp inside North London homes. Catching it early saves thousands in damp-treatment further down the line.

Roof and gutter work — Handyman North London covers both

Gutter Clearing

By autumn most gutters have collected leaves, moss and the silt that birds and the weather wash down from the roof. Once blocked, water spills over the front of the gutter and runs down the wall behind it — straight into the brick or render, and from there into the inside of the house.

We clear gutters by hand from a ladder or — for taller properties — with a vacuum-and-pole system from the ground (no ladders, no risk). Typical clearance time is under two hours for a semi-detached.

Leaking Joints & Sagging Runs

Plastic gutters expand and contract with temperature, and after 15-20 years the rubber gaskets in the joints fail. Leaks at joints are the most common gutter complaint we see. We replace the rubber gaskets or, where necessary, swap out the joint cassettes entirely.

Sagging runs are usually a fixings issue — old brackets have rusted out, or the fascia they were screwed into has softened. We add or replace brackets to bring the gutter back to a true fall.

Full Replacement

When the existing guttering is brittle, cracked or end-of-life, full replacement is straightforward. We work in standard 112mm half-round and squareline profiles in black, white, brown or grey. Cast-iron-effect guttering is also available for period properties. A typical semi-detached gutter run is replaced in a single day.

Downpipes & Soakaways

Downpipe blockages are the second-most common cause of gutter overflow. We rod them clear, replace damaged sections, fit leaf-guards at the top to prevent regular blockage, and check that the discharge into the soakaway or surface-water drain is actually flowing — sometimes the gutter is fine but the underground drain is the real problem.

Why North London Customers Choose Us for Guttering Repair & Replacement

North London is full of trades and not all of them turn up. We hear that from new customers almost every week — someone has waited two days for a callback, taken a morning off work for a quote that never arrived, or been chased for cash on a job that was never finished properly. We built our reputation by doing the simple things consistently: answering the phone, turning up when we say we will, giving fixed prices in writing, doing the job to a tidy standard, and leaving the house cleaner than we found it.

We are not the cheapest in North London and we do not try to be — but we believe we offer the best value when you balance price, reliability and finish quality.

The Process — What to Expect When You Book

1. Enquiry. Fill in our contact form with a brief description of the work and a few photos if you can — the more we know upfront, the more accurate our quote will be. We respond within 24 hours on working days, often much sooner.

2. Site visit and quote. For most guttering repair & replacement work we like to visit the property to give an accurate fixed price. The visit is free, takes 15-30 minutes and there is no obligation. For very small jobs we can quote from photographs alone.

3. Booking. Once you agree the quote we send a confirmation email and book a date. We do not take deposits for jobs under £500 — you pay on completion when you are happy with the work.

4. The work. We arrive on the agreed day in the agreed time slot. We dust-sheet floors, protect skirting and furniture, and work tidily. We keep you informed if anything changes.

5. Completion and payment. When the job is finished we walk you through it, hand over any guarantees or certificates and take payment. Card, bank transfer or cash all welcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should gutters be cleaned?
Once a year minimum, twice a year if you have overhanging trees. The best time is late autumn after the leaves have fallen.
Do you use ladders or scaffolding?
For most semi-detached houses we use a roof-rated ladder. For three-storey terraces and houses where ladder access is difficult we use a vacuum-and-pole system from the ground.
Can you fix just a small section or do I need the whole run replaced?
Almost always just a section. Modern plastic gutter is sectional and replacing one bracket or one length is straightforward.
Will leaf guards stop me ever needing to clean again?
They greatly reduce the frequency but do not eliminate it — moss and grit still get through.
